FamilySearch: no direct GEDCOM export

FamilySearch's help center says it plainly: you can't download a GEDCOM file from its shared Family Tree, because the format can't hold some of the information Family Tree keeps. It recommends programs from its partners instead.

What to do instead

  1. On a computer, open the FamilySearch Solutions Gallery — it isn't available in FamilySearch's mobile apps.
  2. Look at the "Family Tree Management Apps": programs that synchronise with FamilySearch Family Tree.
  3. Choose one and follow its own instructions to download your part of Family Tree. In RootsMagic, for example, you create a new file with "Download from an online tree" and sign in to FamilySearch.
  4. Export a GEDCOM file from that program. Our RootsMagic guide shows how.
