Export your tree from MyHeritage

MyHeritage prepares the GEDCOM file from your family site and emails you a link to download it.

Website

Checked against MyHeritage's own help pages on September 21, 2026. Open MyHeritage's help page (opens in a new tab)

Step by step

  1. Log in to your family site.
  2. Move the cursor over "Family tree" and click "Manage Trees".
  3. Next to the tree's name, click "Export to GEDCOM".
  4. Choose whether to include photos, then click "Begin the export".
  5. You'll receive an email with a link to download your GEDCOM file. Save the file to your computer.

Labels in quotes are copied from MyHeritage's help pages; if a screen looks different, those pages are the reference.

What the file carries

  • Your tree's people, dates, places and relationships.
  • Links to your photos, if you chose to include them — never the photo files themselves.

What it leaves out

  • Information that exists only on MyHeritage, such as Smart Matches and Record Matches.
  • The photo files. When you import the file, 7gens tries to download the photos those links point to; add any that don't come across to the album. To keep your own copies, download them from the "Photos" section of your family site.

Good to know

  • Using Family Tree Builder, MyHeritage's desktop program? Choose "File" → "Export GEDCOM", pick where to save and follow the steps; it offers to export your photos into a folder next to the file.

7gens is not affiliated with or endorsed by MyHeritage. MyHeritage is a trademark of its owner; the name is used here only to describe how to export your own data.
